Joan and I have returned home from some vacation time. We were able to enjoy a cruise on the beautiful Carnival Horizon. We visited Grand Turk, La Romana, Curacao, and Aruba. It is amazing to see the beauty of God’s creative handwork. We are thankful for His safety in our travels. While I was on the ship I passed some time by playing a game on my cell phone. The game is called “Word To Word”. It is a game that gives a list of 10 words and the challenge is to match them in pairs. They might be similar terms or they might be opposites. One game I was playing really caught my attention as one of the words on the list was ‘prayer’. I was surprised first that this word would be on the list. Secondly, I was surprised by the word they had to match up with prayer. The word they used to match was ‘wishes.’ After I recovered from my personal shock and surprise I spent some time thinking on this issue.

Probably many people have this idea of prayer – that prayer is just simply the expression of things I wish I had. Prayer is communicating with God and we can present our needs and wants (petitions) to Him. God knows what we need before we ask and He has promised to supply our needs. But prayer is not just the equivalent to making a wish. We teach our young children to blow out the candles on their birthday cake and make a wish. I think I can honestly say that those ‘wishes’ I made as a child did not come to pass. When I pray I have God’s promise that He hears and that I have those things I have asked him. Hopefully we will grow beyond thinking of prayer as a ‘glorified wish list.’ Let’s pray to the God who loves us more than we have ever been loved and let’s give Him the glory and praise.

I am anticipating that we will begin to see dirt moving this week for the beginning phase of our new facility construction. It has been a long time coming but now plans have been approved by the state and we can see construction beginning to take place. This is an exciting time for us as we can anticipate the construction and its ultimate completion. Lord willing we should be able to have occupancy sometime in March or April. Praise the Lord!!!
